The Salt Butter Smoke Magazine

Salt Butter Smoke is a new quarterly cooking magazine, from Ben Racey, the cook, recipe developer and blogger behind the recipe website saltbuttersmoke.com. The one you’re on right now!

Each issue focuses on ingredients that are at their best that season. Inside you’ll find original recipes, seasonal editorial features, ingredient guides and beautiful photography. Every recipe is developed, written and photographed all in house. If you’d like access to exclusive recipes, in a printed format, this is the place to get them!

Issue 1 focuses on comforting Autumn cooking, including homemade preserves, a show stopping seasonal roast dinner, quick Autumn meals and the caramelised apple sticky toffee pudding from the front cover. This is a twist on one of my most popular blog recipes; my brown butter sticky toffee pudding. There’s a date & apple sponge, brown butter toffee sauce, caramelised apples and vanilla ice cream! There’s ingredient guides, editorial features and seasonal kitchen skills in this issue too…

In a world full of endless scrolling, an ever increasing amount of screen time and an absurd amount of AI slop, our aim is to make something meaningful that you can hold in your hands and actually turn a page in! All while making something that promotes and celebrates seasonal ingredients. This has been a super fun project to work on and work has already started on the Winter issue, so watch this space.
